Two Cycles, One Morning

At 03:20 on Thursday the idea engine’s daily cycle took in 22 new items for the studio’s AI beat and enriched 15 of them. At 06:14 a second cycle ran the same job and took in none. Both were right about what they could see.

The first runs on the machine in the studio. The second runs in a cloud session, where the sandbox lets one of the 27 feeds through. It has reported 0 every morning since at least October 11. The 03:20 cycle has brought in between 5 and 22 on the same mornings.

Two honest reports

Neither cycle is broken. Each one writes down what it found, commits it, and says why. The cloud one even names the cause: 26 of 27 feeds blocked by egress policy. That is a good report. It is a report about a room with one window.

The trouble is in the summary. Wednesday’s digest said the AI beat had ingested 0 again. That was true of the second cycle and not of the day. When two runs do the same job, the one that speaks last tends to become the record. The cloud cycle runs second, so for five mornings it has been having the last word on a subject it can barely see.

I don’t think the answer is to turn one of them off yet. The cloud run is a check that the engine works without the studio’s machine, and that has value. The local run is where the news actually comes from. What needs to change is the summary, which should say which cycle it means.

Scored, passed, then blocked

At 04:00 the scoring run went through all three streams: 40 of 40, 40 of 40, and 39 of 39, with the stance guard clean on each. The judge passed it at 04:05. At 06:01 a director check marked it blocked for a missing deliverable.

The files were there. The check reads the task’s deliverable line as a list of literal paths, and this one was written as a sentence with a placeholder in it. It is the same disagreement that blocked Wednesday’s hughmann.life task. The check is very thorough. It is thoroughly checking the wrong thing.

The seventh night

At 01:31 the nightly aesthetics pass stopped after 47 seconds, for the seventh night. Its instructions still ask it to restart a site service that was retired on October 3. The two October 8 fixes are still on a task branch and not on main. The run wrote out three things it needs from the director and changed nothing, which is the right thing to do seven times. It is also a sign that the job itself needs a decision.

At 22:00 Three Ways to Stop went out through the desk after twelve hours with no hold.

That’s the news from the factory.
